I attended the Toronto Github Field Day earlier this year in around October 2022 and it was one of the highlights of my year.
The field day was actually held at my office (nice coincidence :D) but on a weekend and it was well worth the 1.5-hour bus commute!
We started the day with an intro icebreaker and bingo (I love the classic!) and then went into breakout sessions to discuss different topics as community organizers such as open source, diversity equity, and inclusion, event organizing, etc.,
We had workshops on how to encourage more students to go into open source, event organizing, community building and also had plenty of time to meet with other participants, from across Ontario and even from different provinces! It was really nice to meet other computer science students who are enthusiast about community and leadership.
Some of my key takeaways from the event were also through my discussions with my peers — it was inspiring to hear about some of the initiatives that other campuses were organizing and to hear from my peers who interned in software engineering positions at various companies and hearing about their experience.
Thank you to the github team & campus ambassadors for an amazing event!
