The Art of Not Giving a Damn

The Art of Not Giving a Damn

Picture this: You’re at a dinner party, right? One of those snooty affairs
where everyone pretends to be intellectually superior while sipping overpriced
wine and spewing the latest buzzwords like they’re holy scriptures. You’ve got
Dave, the self-proclaimed tech guru, rambling on about his latest app that’s
supposed to ‘revolutionize’ human interaction. Spoiler alert: it involves a
lot of bullshit and not much human interaction at all. Meanwhile, Jenny, the
yoga-loving social media influencer, is sitting there, her head bobbing along
to the sweet scent of her own farts, flexing her vegan-gluten-free-happy-juice
smoothie like it’s the second coming.

As I’m chowing down on some artisanal cheese, I can’t help but think to
myself, what a glorious pile of self-importance this shindig is. These people
are so wrapped up in their shimmering bubbles that they couldn’t see real life
if it slapped them in the face with a wet fish. Here they are, comparing woes
like they’re fucking badges of honor, while outside the window, the world is
burning. And just when I think it can’t get any better, some twit asks me how
I deal with stress. Without missing a beat, I tell him I simply don't give a
damn. What a revolution that is! Forget your stress balls and meditation apps!
Why not just embrace the delightful absurdity of existence?

These folks are out here trying to solve the world's problems while wearing
their ignorance like a designer suit. They’re creating apps, hashtags, and
ways to monetize every feeling while the rest of us are left to trudge through
the reality of bills and broken dreams. So, cheers to you, my pretentious
dinner mates! Keep your fancy wines and Instagram filters. I’ll take my
reality raw and unfiltered. At least I’ll save my sanity—and my liver—from
drowning in the crap you call ‘adulting.’
