π€² DONT GET ANGRY TO ME FOR POSTING THIS here PLEASEEEEE π€²
QUICK STORY:
During the year 2020, Kaivalya Vohra & Aadit Palicha came to Mumbai after they had gotten into Stanford, & the pandemic erupted.
They were stuck at home & ordered groceries online which usually took 2-3 days to be delivered.
What's the point of delivering groceries if it takes this long!
USE OF DATA:
And this need for speed pushed both of them to start a startup called KiranaKart in 2020.
The basic idea of it was to collaborate with Kirana stores & deliver groceries to nearby residences. While it sounds simple, they smartly utilized one thing: Data
Upon analyzing data, they found that people became repeated customers when groceries were delivered within 10 minutes.
GAME CHANGER
And they made the decision to concentrate their efforts on delivering groceries in '10 minutes' or even less.
To achieve this, they could not only work with Kirana stores.
So, in April 2021, they started Zepto.
{Fun fact:- Zepto is short for Zeptosecond. And it looks like this: 0.000 000 000 000 000 000 001.}
10 MIN DELIVERY
They spent 4 months, from April to August, trying to figure out how to make deliveries in under 10 minutes, or ASAP.
And then they built a system.
Here's what they did::>
So to do deliveries in under 10 mins, they focused on packaging & actual delivery time.
You all know, time = distance Γ· speed.
Whatever you do, traffic in India is bad, & you can't make a delivery boy bring packages faster. To solve this, they focused on distance.
For this, they built multiple Zepto dark stores within a 2-kilometer radius.
Big Basket & Blinkit, 2 of its rivals, each have dark stores. But they are far from the delivery places & vary in area from 2000 to 3000 sq ft. And they keep around 3500 items.
However, zepto dark stores don't exceed 1000 sq ft in area.
Based on pre-prediction data, they store only those 1000 items that 80% of their customers order.
They simply need 60 seconds to package.
They employed Al & data analytics in the dark stores.
Due to the system being optimised so effectively, they were able to determine not only the product to deliver, but also its location & the quick
CURRENT SITUATION
In May 2022, Zepto grew into a $900 million startup. They both left Stanford while establishing their business.
Currently, Kaivalya Vohra (19) & Aadit Palicha (20) have a net worth of Rs 1,000 crore & Rs 1,200 crore, respectively, according to Hurun India.
