The wait is finally over! The first-ever Appwrite Cloud hackathon has ended, and the results are in 🎉
During this hackathon, 3400+ hackers joined from all around the world and worked on various solutions. We saw some great projects, ranging from the use of AI to IoT to solutions that are solving social issues and tools that make developers’ life easier. It was a four-week long online event that took place from May 15th to June 15th.
The hackathon saw collaboration among developers across borders. Witnessing the community spirit and the remarkable sportsmanship displayed throughout the event was truly inspiring. Participants went above and beyond to support and assist one another, creating a vibrant and inclusive environment.
In the words of one of our community members: “Win or lose, this hackathon is great I really like the way they organized it and the way they support each other”
Hackathon Winners
For this hackathon, some big prizes were up for grabs, with a total of $10,000+ in prize money.
So what is at stake here for the winners?
- 1st place: $5,000 and swag
- 2nd to 6th place: $1,000 and swag
Now money is never the big goal for events like these, but it sure is nice to earn some extra funds, and as an open-source company, we know how it can make all the difference. Now let’s dive into what we all have been waiting for: the winners!

The Judging Process
The judges had an incredible pool of approximately 300 projects to pick from, and narrowing the selection to just six was daunting. Our judging panel, containing members from the Appwrite team, Community Members, and Appwrite heroes, dedicated countless hours to evaluate each project.
The judging process was guided by a comprehensive set of criteria. Projects were evaluated based on various factors:
- Product Thinking: Usefulness of the project in a real-world scenario. Completeness of the features implemented.
- UI/UX: The overall look, layout, color usage, and positioning of the application.
- Code: Quality (clean code, proper naming conventions, use of linter); use of best practices.
- Completeness of the article: The blog should cover all aspects of your project. What inspired you to create this project? What problem does the project address? How did you build it?
- Comprehensibility: Try to avoid esoteric jargon in your article. Use simple language to convey your thoughts.
- Usage of Appwrite - Is Appwrite central to the functioning of your project? How many and how well have the different Appwrite services been leveraged?
