I am Brett, 29 Years Old and a Tall Person
I live in Denver but am moving to Portland soon.
-- small backstory, My Lady just landed a Dev Job with a high profile tech company fresh out of bootcamp, that's pretty cool, so here we go...
I'm hoping I can get a new job or start fresh sometime soon after the move
I am curious about many different coding languages for different reasons but currently in my job role -- I am more on the sysadmin junior/it admin/help desk side of things on top of the OS' (active directory, powershell, windows server 2012, remote desktop, nas)
Mostly Windows professionally - but I have used Ubuntu, Fedora, RHEL, Mint and a few other distros here and there on my free time at home trying to learn new things (also have a linuxacademy account, thats a pretty helpful website)
I would like to move into a Developer Role but there is so many options
I have done a few tutorials here and there, sparingly - including: HTML, JavaScript, Python, SQL, C++, Java (Curious about Go because of back-end capabilities)
Even though I work with Windows -- I don't want to be stuck there, so I haven't really jumped into C# or .NET
I am curious about Data Science, DevOps, Game Design, and CyberSecurity because they seem like problem solving / building job roles that I would enjoy, be challenged by... but also it seems like there is so much to learn and gain in those fields (like many others of whatever those though choices make)
I know about a lot of different technologies, just not a whole lot on how to implement them, or write the code (without bugs and it actually working)
I wanted to learn Python first because its the "easiest"
I wanted to learn Java because a lot of companies have Java Stacks, maybe it would be easier to get a job
I wanted to learn Data Science because it seems cool, and maybe I would enjoy it
I wanted to learn DevOps because it was introduced to me by a guy in my former workplace that I respected (Docker, Kubernetes, SaltStack)
I wanted to learn C++ because I have enjoyed and played Starcraft, mostly now Starcraft 2 for 7-10 Years give or take... and I thought it would be cool to work at Blizzard (C++ also gets a nod for financial trading software)
I wanted to Learn Linux because if you don't know Linux, then are you even in IT (joke, but not really, idk, maybe?)
I have so many ideas but I find myself trying to focus on too many things at once. Derp --- What to do what to do
I currently do not have a college degree, much less 10 credits at that
I'm considering Bootcamps --- I have seen the results
Software Engineering, Data Science, CyberSecurity
but also, there is some decent courses at this local community college that are very track specific -- shout out to mt hood near Portland
I am Brett, I am indecisive
