*Author's Note: Before you run to the comments to say how important having a "specialty" is - I'm going to do the opposite and say that most specializations (certainly not all) in swdev are temporary, so you better be well-rounded. Maybe that doesn't come first, because becoming well-rounded takes time, but eventually the thing you became an expert at that got you a bunch of interview requests for a while... it's not A Thing anymore, and now they want different new skills. I like the tone of this article in the sense that it encourages diversification and growth in new areas. Learn what you can, and learn how to see the Big Picture!
I like your take on this subject alot! Specialltiy is indeed hard to maintain with new techonologies popping up every year, today being a SE requires commiting to an "lifelong learner" approach.
