based on my experience in the past 3 years.

I have faced 3 types of Genz people :

  1. Under smart
  2. Smart
  3. Over Smart

But the formula is the same for everyone: Listen, Prove them wrong, and show your skills like magic.

My takeaway points are:

  1. Understand how smart they are when compared to you (if they are smarter than you accept it and improve yourself)

  2. Short, Crisp and clear Communication(even in document and training)

  3. Listen to them, Ask questions, correct them(don't advice, just correct and move on, let them ask if needed)

==

1.Under smart people:

Let's say, I'm a product manager or a technical team lead. Where under smart people(I'm pointing them as under smart because they won't have the proper skill set for a particular role, that's it nothing else).

Managing under smart people is really easy in the long run(3-6+ months), for a couple of months very focused training is required(because of the short byte content, these people are not interested in focusing line gen y or x), So required short, crisp, and clear content.

2. Smart people:

These smart people will think that they are over smart people, and they will think that for them everything is easier task. May for them one or two thing is easy to do fast, But not everything. So all we need to do is involve them in similar tasks, that is part of their job, but they think that's not their job.

Let me a share couple of stories

I had an intern(converted to full time), During his internship he just worked on AI things, just research and doing the model generation(but that's not his role is ) when converted into full time, he need to model generation + keeping in prod code(complex conditions and real-world cases need to be handled by him) + Need to collaborate with the other teams( frontend, backend, testing) when he started exploring things he understood that he don't much common skill to be part of that level of team.

My suggestion:** Let them go wrong, let them experience the failure side, and then you enter and resolve it like eating a cake.**

3.Over Smart people

How do they become oversmart? When you become under-smart or smart for them and they are over-smart, This is the problem with most of the IT companies (maybe in all sector, i don't know) .

How does that happen? When someone comes in as a new, they have a very clear mind or some other skills better than us.

My suggestion: All we need to do is listen to them and ask all the possible questions based on your experience. And correct them before they go wrong. That shows your experience and you have a valid skill to lead them. And eventually, they will follow/respect your path/words
