Announcing: The Grant For The Web x DEV Hackathon Winners!

Last month, we announced the Grant For The Web x DEV Community hackathon.

Grant for the Web (GftW) is a collaboration between Mozilla, Creative Commons, and Coil. They are working towards a healthier internet, using open standards to give people more independence and control over how they distribute and monetize content. This effort is deeply aligned with our values at DEV (we're even Web Monetized now!) and thus the joint hackathon was born.

We sought projects across three categories: Foundational Technology, Creative Catalyst, and Exciting Experiments. More about those categories in the post from last month.

It was incredibly difficult to pick just a handful of winning entries with so many amazing projects to choose from. But after a huge amount of consideration from the DEV and GftW teams, we're thrilled to share the winning Web Monetization projects!

We'll be following up with each winner about their prizes soon, and all DEV prizes will be emailed to you within the next two weeks.

Now, please meet the grand prize winners and runners up β€” and their projects!

Foundational Technology Winner: @mazentouati

Creative Catalyst Winner: @kewbish

Exciting Experiments Winner: @projectescape

What a thrill this morning to wake up and see I've made it to a runner-up state! Thank you for the opportunity to learn more about web monetization and to think about tooling around it for backend developers. I went from not hearing about it before this to knowing a bit more as a result! :)

Congrats to the winners and all the runners-up!

Just a quick plug... if you enjoyed hacking on ideas around Web Monetization, you might be interested in the hackathon just starting today around PayID, which is in the same sort of area of making payments easier.

Congrats to all winners, runners up, and participants!!

I was aware I did not have enough time or the chops to build something original or meaningful enough to win but I participated anyway and it was fun! Learned & shipped new things I would not have known & built otherwise. πŸ™ŒπŸ½
