I wake a half-hour before my family so I'm not grumpy when the chaos starts!

9am and I'm at the school gates, then on to the train station to be at my desk a half-hour or so later. Brew, calendar, emails, something, stand-up. We're at 10:30 by now, ready for the day!

My calendar generally dictates my working hours, but lunch and coffee will end around 2pm. Some days are full of coding (with the junior I'm mentoring/pairing or others in my team), others waiting that awkward ten minutes for my next meeting -- but that's what I do to keep my team coding, as they like!

I squeeze in a bit of quieter thinking time until 18:30, as some others have worked earlier hours so the office is calmer. My kids watch my face go along the railway line on Google Maps, as I commute home to do their bath and bedtime.

I'm lucky that I don't have to do on-call or take my work home with me.

I work from home.

  • Wake up
  • Walk my dog Ruby
  • Ideally I start my day by doing a few hours of coffeeshop work in the morning. Sometimes I need to jump right into things at home and don't get the environment adjustment.
  • Either way start work around 8am
  • Some days I have a bunch of meetings between 10 and 2pm. Some days I'm more free, some days I'm more swamped.
  • Work until I am at a good break point. I could stand to quit work earlier than I do, but as an entrepreneur I tend to take on a lot of tasks and working from home can make it easy for the day to drag on.

I wake up at 7am and give myself about 10 minutes to get out of bed.

From there I either wash up or take a shower, then eat a quick breakfast.

At 8am I go for a walk (if weather permits) that lasts between 40 minutes to an hour.

After that I write down what tasks I want to accomplish for the day and writing down any events.

Around 10 I start job searching. I make it a goal to apply for 5 per day. This can range depending on what I have to do, including taking assessments, writing a cover letter, writing emails, etc.

From here my schedule is more loose, since I don't have a job currently, but I'm doing one or more of these things after 12pm:

  • Working on my portfolio

  • Learning something new (now it's gatsby)

  • Studying German

  • Editing my resume

  • Interacting on socials

  • completing a daily coding challenge

By dinner I'll take a break for a few hours and eat while hanging out with family. Also, I'll usually play video games for like an hour.

For the rest of the evening, I'll be working on a personal project or just relaxing, depending on how I'm feeling.

I'm really interested in seeing how my routine changes once I get my first tech job!

I get up about 7:00 and start getting my kids ready for school (make lunches, make sure they get dressed and eat breakfast) About 8:00 I get in the shower. By 8:45, I'm running the little kids to school (the older ones are already gone).

Three days a week I have a commute immediately after, so I roll into work by 9:15-9:20. The other two days I get to work home, so I have a quick breakfast and start work by 9:00.

After that, I start checking email and Slack before our daily standup at 9:30 (I need to be up-to-speed with our build status and other items of business before I lead the standup). We then have a quick team refinement meeting on Mondays. Next is our Scrum of Scrums meeting at 10:30 for all team scrum masters. By about 11:00, I'm finally ready to start coding. And by coding, I mean pair programming. I'm a senior dev so a lot of my coding time is actually spent mentoring other developers and teaching them how the product works. It's actually quite rewarding.

When lunchtime hits, I have to get away from my desk. When the weather is warm, I'll go out for a run. We have a nice trail that follows a creek that is usually full in the spring. If it's colder, I'll walk the trail. Sometimes we do a team lunch or I run errands. But, I always get away from my desk.

By about 4:30, I get ready for the commute home. On work-from-home days, I close my laptop at 5:00. From there, I'm getting dinner ready, making sure my kids get home from their various activities (my wife gets them there). 9:00 rolls around with me getting the kids into bed and squeezing in my side work while my youngest goes to sleep. Usually after that, I'll get some time with my wife before we go to bed.

I am from the south of India (Kerala). My day starts with waking up at like sometimes 3 am or 6 am and worst case at 8:30 AM. Waking up early gets me some time to admire my 2-year-old baby boy who usually wakes at 8 am. I got 30 minutes to get ready to work. I have to travel 4KM (around 2.5 miles) to Office. I travel to Office in my favorite Royal Enfield Desert Strom (500 cc) takes me 15 to 30 minutes to reach the office after all the traffic.

I work in a startup as a Senior Web Developer. My morning office routines start with reading messages from Gmail and Slack. I handle a stand-alone project so most of my time is spend in coding while my manager deals with client requirements and other stuff. So my day goes on like this

Reaching Office - 9 am
Start Coding - 9:30 am - 11:30 am
Coffee Break - 11:30 am - 12:00 pm
Coding Again - 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
Lunch Break - 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm
Coding Again - 2:30 pm - 5:00 pm
Coffee Again - 5:00 pm - 5:30 pm
Coding Again - 5:30 pm - 6pm
Back to home by 6:30 pm.

Where I am greeted by my baby boy and my dear wife. Following chit chats and some tea/snacks till 9:00 pm. I am back to coding by 10:00 pm (for my projects) and back to bed by 12:00 am -2:00 am (depends).

So, this is how my day goes. All happy, no worries and infinity coding.

I work in a Startup as a Tech Lead. The office is located 7 minutes' walking from my home. As a hobby, I participate in CrossFit championships. Because of that, I have a regular diet to perform better on the workouts. In a typical week, I cook twice a week and weigh the food I'll eat during the day.

  • Wake up at 5:40 am
  • Meal prep, breakfast and get ready to work - 5:50 am - 6:45 am
  • Get in the office around 7 am
  • Between 7 am to 9 am I do code reviews, reply emails, check slack channels
  • 9:30 am I have the second meal of the day
  • Usually I have meetings between 10 am to 12 pm. Those are usually related to the sprint, tasks that people are stuck or anything I can help with
  • Lunchtime 12 pm ~ 1 pm
  • From 1 pm to 2 pm, I do One on Ones with the team. I have typically 1 one on one a day because the team has 6 people
  • Between 2 pm to 4 pm, I try to code as much as possible. I try to block this time to get something done
  • At 3:30 I have the fourth meal of the day
  • From 4 pm to 5 pm I do daily checks with the team, see if I can help with something.
  • I usually get home at 5:30 and eat the fifth meal of the day.
  • Work for side projects or Freelance projects between 6:00 pm until 7:20 pm
  • Go to Crossfit between 7:45 pm until 9:10 pm
  • Get at home 9:40 pm and eat my last meal
  • Read about 20 minutes before going to bed at 11 pm
