Hi i have participated earlier, this year i want to participate via gitlab since that option is available. I created a repo for hacktoberfest in gitlab. The steps above are for github for making it eligible for hacktoberfest. what to do for gitlab to make that repo hacktobest eligible. Since there arae labels but that is different then github any luck @michelle

for #Hacktoberfest 2023 - read Hacktoberfest guide and find ref in the middle of text

So it is best to look for projects on GitHub or GitLab that have the “Hacktoberfest” topic.
You can find eligible repositories on GitHub.
You can find eligible code repositories on GitLab.

so it's all about adding topic hacktoberfest to repo, but you will have to work afterwards:
(from Hacktoberfest 2022: Everything You Need to Know to Participate )

Participating as a Maintainer

To participate as a maintainer, you must facilitate participation for contributors. The first step is to either:

  • Add the hacktoberfest topic to your repository;
  • Or add the hacktoberfest-accepted label into your repository to be used on pull requests.

Then, you must merge four PRs into your repository during October. If you decide to use the second option mentioned in the first step, make sure to add the hacktoberfest-accepted label into these PRs.

It's a hackathon that encourages people to commit code to open source projects. Check it out on the website.
