Hey everyone!
Ever get tired of scrolling through unrelated videos or endless YouTube Shorts that don't match the content you actually enjoy? Or maybe, like me, you find yourself getting sidetracked by Shorts when you're really just trying to find a specific video. I know the struggle—it happens to me all the time.
That's why I decided to tackle this issue head-on and brainstorm ways to cut down on time spent scrolling through Shorts. Then I thought, why not build something that can just hide all those Shorts from your feed?
Detoxify
Detoxify is an extension that lets you control your YouTube experience by hiding or unhiding Shorts from your home feed. It’s cross-browser compatible (yep, works smoothly on Chromium browsers, Firefox, and probably Edge too).
The extension is already live on the Firefox Add-on store and will be available on the Chrome Web Store soon. Here’s a sneak peek of Detoxify in action.
Roadmap
- Bug Fixes: Resolve the issue preventing Shorts from reappearing correctly after toggling.
- Extended Functionality: Extend Shorts-hiding functionality to YouTube search results and other areas.
- Filter Options: Add options to filter feed videos based on selected tags.
- UI/UX Enhancements: Improve the user interface for a more intuitive experience.
- Hide Playables: Introduce an option to hide playables (for YouTube Premium users).
Privacy Concerns
Detoxify operates entirely within the browser and does not collect, store, or transmit any user data. All modifications occur locally, ensuring that browsing activity remains private and secure. The Chrome version of the extension uses Manifest V3 for enhanced security, while the Firefox version currently operates on Manifest V2, adhering to the latest available standards for each platform.
The extension is completely open source and contributions are welcome.

Wow whole extension, I have 3 lines of custom CSS to do the same thing. I hate shorts. They are the worst thing that happen to social media, thanks to TikTok.
Yeah but this extension keep it in sync so you don't have to do it every time you visit the site! It will be hidden as long as you unhide it.
Same as my CSS snippet if you use extension that allow to manipulate CSS on different pages. Those extensions exist for ages. I don't need to apply anything.
Your choice, can't force you to use it.
