Focus on the Fun
Most of the work I've done has generally been for academic, employment, or training purposes. While that isn't necessarily a bad thing, I want to also focus on creating things purely for myself and the people I care about.
One of the major driving forces behind my choice to pursue life as a computer engineer was that I loved the idea of creating fun stuff and spreading joy to others through my technical skills. I think I've lost that a bit through taking my career a little too seriously these days, so I need to relax and just enjoy being creative.
Have More Self Confidence
Even now I sometimes feel like I'm still a beginner when I know I'm at least more of a mid-level engineer.
Part of this comes down to my self confidence changing like the weather. I also think it's due to some skill gaps. Taking things too seriously also doesn't help.
Going forward I'm going to put more effort into studying and revising subjects I consider myself weak in, and incorporate my learning into my first goal; making fun stuff, even if it's not useful to anyone, and just enjoy the journey.
Network More
I need more devs in my life. One thing I'd like to do this year is expand my social and professional circles, especially those that share my interest in robotics and embedded systems.
One way of working at this is that I'm getting out of the habit of lurking and shifting towards putting more effort into contributing online. This is what motivated me to make this first post of mine here on DEV. Hi, by the way.
