Maybe this is a silly question. I tried searching but found nothing. ๐
I noticed some of the dev.to hashtags do different things. Ex Some hashtags show up beside the title but others do not.
The #help, #discuss, and #ama hashtags also seem to have special functionality attached to it. Is there a page that describes this? I want to be able to tag appropriately.
Many thanks.

You can check the guidelines for a specific tag in the tag page, e.g. dev.to/t/help. The tag labels are also links to the tag page.
Regarding the tags that have special behaviour, I don't know of any page explaining it, but basically a post tagged with a tag that appears in the sidebar may appear in the sidebar and has the tag highlighted in the feed.
oh, I saw those but it never occurred to me to re-read them. They're do state a pretty clear intention for the hashtag. Thanks!
The tags that are added in front of titles are called "Flare Tags", I don't know of any other benefit expect the added visual appearance.
You can find the list of current flare tags here: github.com/thepracticaldev/dev.to/...
ohhhh, the source code.. never even thought about looking at that.
Thank you!
This is a problem. Yes as @avalander mentioned, you can go to the tag. It remains, however, a sore spot how unintuitive this is. Adding this somewhere to the editor experience has been a TODO and it's my fault for not providing enough guidance on the approach for implementing this.
Thanks for bringing it up. I'm going to give this extra attention today and we may be able to ship some improvements soon.
Iโve got the same question!
