Active listening is a superpower for a developer. Generally, we are focused on coding solutions, but to do so, it is necessary to listen carefully to the people on our team. We must always be careful with our communication in our work routine. To build exceptional products, we will deal with people, in addition to code, and this is one of the vital parts of a company.
When we are willing to understand our colleagues, we create strong bonds, and this reflects the unity and partnership of a team. To achieve this, the first step is to listen carefully to what our colleagues share, to understand their concerns, ideas and needs. When we practice active listening, we are showing our team that they are valued and heard.
Recently, in a daily, a colleague reported an impediment in her task, and listening to her carefully, I realized that I had already experienced this same problem. When she finished her speech, I shared the solution I applied so that she could continue developing her demand. In this way, I demonstrated to my team that I am always willing to collaborate and help solve the problems we encounter along our paths.
