The world has been inundated with DIY things, Ikea, and all that, but ancient humans have created a word that better encapsulates the idea of "Doing the best with what you have".
Bricolage
This is one of the few French word exceptions that I like (alongside Flaneur).
Bricolage is "Trial and error with adjustments with whatever pieces are available".
Turkle writes: "The bricoleur resembles the painter who stands back between brushstrokes, looks at the canvas, and only after this contemplation, decides what to do next."(Source).
It is human endeavor improvisation in its best light possible.
