Dimension, a leading virtual production studio, has announced a strategic partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Arch Platform Technologies to establish the most extensive virtual production operation in the cloud. This move will enable Dimension to efficiently scale its virtual production workflows and collaborate remotely with filmmakers worldwide.
Dimension, known for its work on projects such as "Masters of the Air," "Those About to Die," and "Here," has chosen AWS as its primary cloud provider to support its compute, storage, and remote workstation requirements. The studio is also utilizing AWS Deadline Cloud to power its cloud-based render pipelines.
Callum Macmillan, CTO of Dimension and DNEG 360, emphasized the importance of this partnership in enabling the studio to respond swiftly to evolving business requirements as its operations become increasingly global. "With AWS's extensive global presence and Arch's infrastructure platform, we can collaborate remotely with filmmakers using real-time to block out scenes or work across multiple locations on shared assets, all while managing demanding virtual production environments," Macmillan added.
Arch Platform Technologies has been selected to streamline the orchestration of Dimension's advanced performance virtual desktop infrastructure, storage, and real-time capabilities. Using Arch's platform, the Dimension team can create and deploy secure global VPC facilities in an hour and customized cloud workstations in five minutes. Arch also supports on-premises resources and offers a scalable solution with variable costs.
Guy Botham, CEO of Arch Platform Technologies, expressed his pride in being part of Dimension and DNEG 360's vision for the future of creative content production. "Our platform for demanding end-user and team workflows and supporting cloud infrastructure is an ideal match," Botham stated.
Earlier this year, Dimension and DNEG 360 collaborated with AWS for "Cowgirls on the Moon," a demonstration showcasing the potential of generative AI-assisted virtual production, VFX rendering in the cloud using AWS Deadline Cloud, and a holistic production in the cloud.

Dimension and DNEG 360 operate two of the world's largest state-of-the-art LED volumes, performance, vehicle, and volumetric capture stages, and build bespoke studio setups worldwide. The studio is deploying Arch for its upcoming slate of independent films, including "HUMANOID," "2040," and "Campbelltown '69".
