This morning, I was browsing YouTube and stumbled upon the following video describing the AI art generator, Midjourney:
I've already joined the beta and have been crafting images โ I could easily lose my whole day to this. ๐
Note that the cover image for this post was generated by Midjourney. I think that's one of my favorite things about this app โ I can set the aspect ratio (1000:420) so it'll fit for DEV posts!
Anyway, I'm eager to hear what y'all think about this app and this kinda tech in general! Anybody have knowledge of this space (AI art generation) and wanna talk about some of the engineering behind it? Is anyone here using Midjourney or other similar apps to generate artwork for their posts or anything else? Also, if you just wanna drop an image that you generated down in the comments below, be my guest!

Ever wonder what Steampunk Donald Trump might look like?
I have been also having a blast with MidJourney. I write a lot for myself and have been using MidJourney as inspiration and illustration for what I write. Super fun!
Wow, these are seriously dope! I'm lovin' the bottom left tile in particular, but really all are awesome.
I hadn't thought about using it for writing purposes (outside of creating cover images for stuff here on DEV), but that's a brilliant idea! ๐ก I might try and use it as a songwriting tool... it was also make for amazing album art, haha!
Been using MJ for a month now and generated over 1.5k images. It is amazing of course, but the usefulness is so far limited. It's hard to get MJ to generate what you actually ask it to generate and it has a hard time understanding context and semantics. If you want to create abstract art, landscapes, random pictures, etc., it is awesome. But you get tired of this after a while.
They had a beta version available for a while that was MUCH better but for some inexplicable reason shut it down, which pissed off many in the community. It was much, much better.
MJ is cool but so far not very useful. Creating sprites for game graphics, however, it works well for those who are into it.
... aaaand I just got my DALL-E invitation, I'm kind of avoiding starting with it as I know I'll spend a ton of time on it!
Ooooo... I'm unfamiliar with DALL-E, but just did a quick Google search and dang, this looks awesome!
Now that @j3ffjessie mentioned that MidJourney is better to use than DALL-E, I think I'm gonna go with that. I could be waiting till the end of the year for an invitation to it. ๐
Awww yeah! I can honestly say I love MidJourney... unfortunately, I already used up all of my free trial, haha. Might have to join up forreal!
I pretty much used 90% of mine just today.... ๐
