PyConUK is super awesome, so welcoming. They were super helpful when we wanted advice setting up so we can run PyCon Ireland 2010, so lots of questions on setting Python Ireland as a company and how to set up committee, AGMS, programming, and much more! When they hosted EuroPython in 2009, it was my first ever one in Birmingham, they talked to me, a complete stranger and invited me to sit at their table. Turns out it was PyConUK/EP organisers table and lots of Python core devs on it. I didn't know until my husband said it to me as he was seated at another table (this was due to random names on our registration to get us mingling).
Childcare is a problem to organise here in Ireland, I've looked into it, I've asked other organisers as well. We have very strict rules on childcare, the best I got was if there's a childcare facilities nearby. We can't have it in onsite. Insurance would be a big issue. This is primarily a problem for organisers in Republic of Ireland. Maybe someone might have a solution, but due our strict child protection legislation, this may not be something we can do unfortunately. 😓
AMEN to using languages for their merit to the project instead of what's popular!
(Also, I feel you — "guys" is definitely a hard one to expunge from vocab.)
