Exposure over intelligence.

It has taken me quite some time to reach this point – a point where I feel confident navigating new technologies without the self-doubt. Before I made the leap into coding full-time, I had a preconceived notion that intelligence was the magic ingredient. I won't deny that I possessed some level of intelligence, but I often found myself comparing my progress to those who seemed to excel effortlessly. It was easy to believe that coding was solely about intellect.

However, as I've spent more time immersed in this field, I've come to realize that intelligence is just one piece of the puzzle. The more I've delved into concepts, even those that initially overwhelmed me, the more I've understood them. I've discovered that exposure plays a crucial role – not just raw intelligence. The key is to persist, regardless of how foolish you may feel at the outset. With time and dedication, these concepts begin to stick.

Take, for example, the statement: "Ade loves dogs." Initially, it might seem nonsensical. But by breaking down the sentence into its component parts, examining each one individually, and then piecing them together, I begin to form my understanding of what "Ade loves dogs" truly means. I ask questions, experiment, and eventually, the meaning becomes clear. It wasn't sheer intelligence that led me to this understanding; it was a combination of determination, persistence, resilience, humility, and, I must admit, innate curiosity.

When I say humility, I mean letting go of preconceived notions. It's those preconceptions that often hold us back.

I find myself relishing the feeling of not knowing something, simply because it sets me off on a journey of discovery. It's an opportunity to unravel the mysteries and expand my knowledge, and that's what keeps me going—the sheer mental challenge that comes with the job.
