Apps which will become famous in 2024

Every once in a while, an app comes about and changes the game. Like for example, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, TikTok etc have transformed a huge part of our lives - how we communicate, share and learn. Every year many such life changing apps come into the market. What apps do you think would transform 2024? I think it might be one of the following apps:

  • an app which helps people build a strong and deep sense of community
  • an app which lets people learn top skills in seconds or minutes (not hours or days)
  • an app which helps people to stick to hard macro habits like working out
  • an app which lets people to sell their services and is seller biased rather than being buyer biased

What kind of apps do you think will shake 2024?

I hope that some of your wish list will come true, especially the sense of community!

I think there are already many apps that claim to follow one of the other goals like seller-biased marketing (in reality, they don't care about sellers nor buyers, they're biased towards the marketplace service, no doubt), helping to learn and improve habits (I used to like headspace before they introduced confusion and gamification, I tried several disappointing health apps, and now I'm undecided about Duolingo which is helpful and cute but also partially dysfunctional as a web app and their choice of vocabulary doesn't seem to fit the country's culture), and I still don't get the value that made TikTok so successful.

My personal resolutions are quite the contrary: try to use apps and mobile gadgets less and shift focus back to the material world: taking a walk, talking to people, going to the gym, reading printed books on paper, taking more notes on paper etc.

An app that lets you build your idea without much worrying about building core functionalities.

Top skills 🚀 in seconds or minutes? 🤔.. Only possible in dream. Happy Sleeping. Good things take time.

It is possible. Obviously the whole skill cannot be learnt in seconds or minutes but each skill has several parts to it and those parts can be broken down into chunks and these small chunks can be taught in seconds or minutes. This is going to be the need of the hour soon since people's attention spans are being reduced drastically due to over-exposure to reels and shorts. Do you watch long form videos more on YouTube or do you watch Shorts more? If you answer that honestly, you can maybe understand what I mean. Also, please let us keep the community positive and refrain from demeaning or insulting people by saying things like "Happy Sleeping", if my content bothers you, you are free to unfollow or not read it. I remember reading one of your other comments on my other posts in which you asked "Are you a senior developer?" I know that men like you always try to bring women down, but that won't be accepted here, if you try to bring me down again, I will have to block you.

Good call out, Nandini! You're absolutely right that there's no need for this negativity.

Maybe for your sorry @$$. Nobody believed that ATMs can be a thing back then. 10 years later, you cannot pass a road without crossing one. If you don't believe in something, keep your comments to yourself.

an app which lets people learn top skills in hours or days, not weeks and months is what Nandini probably meant but seconds and minutes is something to dream about!

No, actually I did mean seconds or minutes and not hours or days because with the growing use of social media, the attention span of people is reducing drastically. People are preferring shorts, small posts or reels as opposed to long form videos, people are preferring series with short episodes as opposed to movies. Therefore if people can learn skills soon, they would prefer that. And it is possible too. Obviously the whole skill cannot be learnt in seconds or minutes but each skill has several parts to it and these parts can be broken down into smaller chunks and each chunk can be taught in seconds or minutes.

Okay, so maybe like Duolingo for other types of skills.

maybe. but i meant more like Udacity. Some of the Udacity courses have really short and crisp video lectures which teach practical things.

but individualization could help, like small lessons or mini exercises based on common programming mistakes found in my code
