My experience at MLH Local Hack Day: Build

This year I participated in Major League Hacking's Local Hack Day: Build. It was an amazing experience for me. It changed me in some ways.

1. Reading Medium Posts

I am a classic procrastinator and my medium reading list is stacked up with hundreds of to-be-read-later posts. Until now, I did not really go back to them. Since LHD's (Local Hack Day) challenges were so many in number, I had to finally get back to them to complete as many challenges as I could.

2. Impact on those around me

I have 2 younger sisters and both of them (12-year-old sister included) want to participate in hackathons and enjoy the thrill of the experience!

3. The building project at another level

The format of this challenge is to build as much as possible. Sure, my projects aren't great, but I learned so many new tools, APIs, debugging someone else's code, becoming better at pushing the code into a GitHub Repository (using the command line!) and so much more!

4. Community

It is my habit to attend meetups but this is one of those rare occasions where I participated in conversations and enjoyed the company of so many amazing people. All of them have some amazing stories and contribute to society. I went through a journey from no interaction to communicating with my guildmates to communicate with a wider audience (I spoke at a live e-meet conducted by the EddieHub guild that was hosted on Youtube!] It became a journey from I to us.

5. Fun at the mini-events

All the mini-events conducted were so much fun. We drew stuff live, stacked up stuff around us, and played the dino game. The enthusiasm with which the MLH Coaches conducted is something I have seen before!

6. Technical Sessions

There were a ton of them! We learned so much! There were sessions on web development, blockchain, python (basics to building an AI bot in Flask), building a website using Jekyll, cloud database, and map technology. This was how varied the sessions were. We also learned the process of building a project, how to research a new topic, and learning something new from a tutorial. All of these were done live!

7. Non-technical stuff

We learned to make a logo and re-design mascots at a technical event! Posting on socials was a major challenge for me though

All in all, it was an amazing experience. There's a lot of talk about this event and a blog post cannot do enough justice to the kind of experience every single hacker experienced at this challenge!

Thanks for Reading.

P.S: Writing this blog post was also a part of the challenge
