Day 5: Learning UI/UX Design
π Hello, Dev Community!
I'm Prince Chouhan, a B.Tech CSE student with a passion for UI/UX design. Today, I'm excited to share my learnings on visual hierarchy, a fundamental principle in UI design that enhances usability and guides user attention.
ποΈ Day 5 Topic: Visual Hierarchy in UI Design
π Today's Learning Highlights:
- Concept Overview:
Visual hierarchy is the arrangement and presentation of elements in a way that signifies their importance. It helps guide users' attention and improves usability by making it easier for users to find and understand information.
- Key Factors Contributing to Visual Hierarchy:
-
Size:
- Larger Elements: Draw attention first and indicate higher importance.
- Smaller Elements: Indicate secondary information.
- Application: Headlines are larger than body text; primary buttons are larger than secondary ones.
-
Color:
- Contrast: High contrast highlights important items.
- Bold Colors: Attract attention.
- Subdued Colors: Recede into the background, emphasizing primary elements.
- Application: Use accent colors for calls-to-action (CTAs), warnings, or key information.
-
Placement:
- Top and Center: Elements at the top or center are perceived as more important.
- Left to Right: In cultures that read left to right, elements on the left side are seen first.
- Application: Place navigation menus at the top, important buttons in prominent positions.
-
Proximity (Law of Proximity):
- Grouping: Elements close to each other are perceived as related.
- Spacing: Proper spacing delineates different sections and groups related items.
- Application: Group related form fields together, ensure related content is clustered.
-
White Space (Negative Space):
- Definition: Empty space around elements in a design.
- Emphasis: More white space around an element makes it stand out.
- Clarity : Reduces clutter and enhances readability.
- Application: Use ample margins and padding around key elements, avoid overcrowding.
-
Repetition:
- Consistency: Repeating styles indicate that elements are related.
- Pattern Recognition: Helps users recognize and predict the behavior of elements.
- Application: Consistent use of colors, fonts, and design elements for related items (e.g., all buttons for primary actions look the same).
π Future Learning Goals:
Next, I'll explore the principles of consistency and simplicity in UI design.
