In case you missed it, applications for Wave 4 of the XRPL Grants program are now open through October 14, 2022! This wave seeks projects that provide solutions to achieve climate goal targets and the United Nations’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, and must leverage the carbon-neutral, open-source XRP Ledger (XRPL).
The goal of this wave is to further advance global developer projects built on the XRP Ledger. Supporting these efforts is Ripple’s previous 1 billion XRP commitment to the XRPL Grants program that includes a specific carveout to address sustainability-related challenges. To help get you inspired, projects should focus on, but are not limited to:
- Carbon markets
- Climate
- Conversation
- Clean Energy
- Food Systems
- Regenerative Finance (ReFi)
- Sustainability Education
Previous XRPL Grantees have already developed sustainability-focused projects such as Carbonland Trust & DAO, which is creating ESG NFTs representing rights on future carbon credits from forest conservation; and Ripple Reefs, which created an NFT collection and metaverse for a gamified approach to ocean conservation and marine education.
Expanding the XRPL Grants Judging Committee
To support the review and selection of sustainability projects in Wave 4, new experts and sustainability leaders are joining the XRPL Grants Judging Committee:
Marc Johnson, Filecoin Green - aims to measure the environmental impacts of Filecoin and verifiably drive them below zero, building infrastructure along the way that allows anyone to make transparent and substantive environmental claims.
Additionally, ReFi projects seeking additional funding and technological support are invited to apply for the Filecoin Green Grants round, focusing on reforestation, carbon credits, carbon negative solutions, biodiversity monitoring and reporting, and more. Grants range from $5,000 - $200,000 USD, and interested projects can apply on Github until September 30.
Apoorva Sahay, Rocky Mountain Institute - is an independent, non-partisan, nonprofit organization of experts accelerating the clean energy transition. RMI’s mission is to transform the global energy system to secure a clean, prosperous, just, and zero-carbon future for all.
Esteban van Goor, Xange.com - is the preferred private sector counterpart of the United Nations to establish and sustainably run a securities exchange in the Republic of Mauritius. Xange.com has developed a carbon credit solution on the XRP Ledger for the issuance of tokenized carbon credits and chose to build on the XRP Ledger given its performance, scalability and inherently green attributes.
In addition to the above judges, Ripple Impact is proud to partner with innovative fintechs, universities, NGOs, foundations and social entrepreneurs to make progress toward a more open and meaningfully connected world. As co-founders and active members of the Crypto Climate Accord and the World Economic Forum’s Crypto Impact and Sustainability Initiative, Ripple is committed to a low-carbon future for the crypto industry and global economy.
The XRP Ledger is the world’s first major global carbon-neutral blockchain, enabling sustainable crypto solutions and powering more efficient, scalable and dynamic carbon markets. Ripple is on track to achieve carbon net-zero by 2030 or sooner through reduced emisisons, clean energy use and investments in innovative carbon removal projects.
