The XRPL Grants program has selected 35 new awardees in Wave 3, which sought projects focused on “Contributing to Open Source.” Wave 3 saw a record number of applications—with more than 175 received from 30+ countries globally—with awarded projects receiving nearly $3 million in total funding.
The XRPL Grants program funds software development projects that leverage the open-source XRP Ledger (XRPL). While all applications that fit the spirit and criteria of the program were considered, the goal for Wave 3 was to encourage applicants to submit open source projects that would help expand the resources available to the entire XRPL developer community.
Applications were carefully reviewed and considered by the XRPL Grants’ judging committee from across industry and academia, including Ripple, Forte, Coil, as well as participants from Ripple’s University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI). Projects are considered for funding against a set of criteria including technical feasibility and benefit to the XRPL community.
Project use cases that align with this wave’s “Contributing to Open Source” theme include:
- Free version of an AI/ML risk engine via API
- Geolocation mapping
- E-commerce, coupons, tipping and online payment solutions
- NFTs and gaming
- Plugins and language integrations with the XRPL
- Community recognition tool for open-source coding contributions
