All this does is train users to rapidly identify how to close a dialogue window. Well-intentioned (maybe) laws passed without an awareness of technology.
Ah yes, the "unread messages" scam. Message #1 of course being Don't trust this vendor.
This is just obnoxious and cheap. Don't do it.
And then there's this crap. I don't want to join your bloody website. I just want the info that you let Google index, and is there in the DOM if I have the patience to chip away at it in Chrome dev tools. Or, as it turns out, screencap it and freezeframe X-D twitter.com/rmoff/status/1…17:36 PM - 16 Dec 2019Robin Moffatt 🍻🏃🥓 @rmoffAnd whoever invented this nonsense can really just fuck off… https://t.co/gmqtGfjtsG https://t.co/1Onn6yN4hi
If you want to withhold content, that's fine and that's your prerogative. It's the bait and switch that I object to here. If you have content that you'll share with me in exchange for me registering for your site—and that you'll show Google and even me for a second when I click through—that's adding zero value to anyone.
