Routavio is a multimodal travel planning and route optimization platform combining flights, trains, buses, and ferries. We explore graph algorithms, transportation networks, distributed systems, and the engineering of intelligent travel search.
Routavio is a travel technology platform focused on multimodal journey planning and graph-based route optimization. Developed from an engineering research project, it combines flights, trains, buses, and ferries through a time-aware transportation graph. Our work explores constrained pathfinding, multicriteria optimization, heterogeneous transport data, provider reliability, and distributed systems. Here we publish technical findings, architectural decisions, performance measurements, and engineering case studies.
Our stack
TypeScript, Next.js, React, Node.js, PostgreSQL, Prisma, Docker, GTFS, REST APIs, Vitest, k6, Prometheus, Loki, and Grafana. Our routing architecture combines directed transport graphs, bounded heuristic search, geographic pruning, multicriteria itinerary ranking, PostgreSQL-backed work queues, caching, and provider resilience mechanisms.
