Today is March 8th, International Women's Day. An event that was born in New York City in February 1909. In 1917 it was picked up by Soviet Russia and celebrated on March 8, and soon after the rest of the socialist and communist countries followed. The US started celebrating International Women's Day in 1977, about a decade after it was picked up by a feminist movement.
Yes, March 8 is a feminist holiday that was born in the United States.
Yet, on this day I came across a post on twitter:
Now, full disclosure: I have a degree in computer science, however, I also attended a coding boot camp, because, well, I wanted to 💁🏻♀️. So, according to this post I am a "pretend programmer" 🤣, I guess?
When I first read the message, I was dumbfounded and didn't even know how to feel exactly. But then I got it! It seems to me, that the person who posted the message bashing on "women in coding" is threatened by us, women. But, women getting into tech is natural, and there will only be more of us in STEM. Better get used to it!
Anyway, in my experience, people who are confident in their skills and knowledge, regardless of sex, gender, occupation, industry, and do on, won't discriminate. Instead, they'd be happy to help, show around, and create connections.
March is Women's History Month, and the message linked in my post is disrespectful, regardless of the date it was originally posted. Even the last paragraph doesn't help the author. We see you, buddy!

Pretty much sums it up. Anyone who gets offended and so PO'd that they have to post a rant online about "women are why we have bugs" isn't living in the real world.
We have bugs because software is complex and the time constraints to meet business demands are becoming tighter so things get overlooked. Not to mention software is getting more complex and the baseline for an acceptable feature set more complex as the world grows - e.g. think about how now it's pretty stock standard for chat clients to support video as well. This certainly wasn't the case a few years back.
Teams are also much bigger than they used to be because of all this complexity. That's the reason why there are "more bugs" - though I'm not so sure that's even a valid statement, but if it is, it's because of complexity, not women... that notion is so utterly ridiculous.

I completely agree with you. And software will only get more complex, and deadlines tighter, and requirement broader. Ha! I did have an interview where they wanted me to do web design, UX/UI, ML, and data visualization. That alone sounds like 4 different teams/departments. Imagine the quality of my work if I were to do this? Yes, it was a startup.
I kinda didn't want to break down and discuss every paragraph he wrote because I wanted to hear/read some opinions 🙂.
I think what he meant that he is intimidated by women who are hired by the the companies who just want women as a part of their diversity programm and not all women in general
Interesting that you bring this up. Name at least one company that hires women only because they're women.
If that is the case, with my credentials, I am a precious gem for any company and people should be fighting for me 😅: I am a woman, a [protected] veteran, BS in CS, bootcamp cert, and this fall I am starting my masters in space systems engineering. Did I also mention I am an immigrant? OMG I know! Came here to take an american's job!.. However, when I apply for jobs, my resume still has to pass through ATS, I still have to convince a recruiter I am a good fit, and I still have to pass a technical interview. And I've failed technical interviews. And when I did, no one handed me a job just because I am a woman.
Unfortunately, there is no excuse for this guy and his words, no matter how much you try.
