I guess Twitter comes before Truth social and while i see truth was an alternative for Mr Donald Trump to air his uncensored openion, i feel it is more on technical consideration as to how free a platform be.
Freedom is an illusion with privately owned platforms, you're still operating in someone else's kingdom and at the end of the day, they decide what is and is not allowed. They'll champion "freedom" until they encounter the "inconvenient" freedoms that are legally allowed but against the moral/ethical vision of the owners.
One of the most salient features of our Tech Hiring culture is that there is so much bullshit. Everyone knows this. Each of us contributes his share. But we tend to take the situation for granted.
Perhaps we should dial back the temperature of this thread, my comment wasn't intended to force community members to unpack a topic so divisive and relative as the definition of freedom.

The new Twitter was supposedly all about free speech.
Or really about "free speech whatever that means" because it was pretty obvious that there was no sane definition of what free speech means.
At that time I assumed that by default it would be some naive half understood version of the 18th century version of free speech from the US constitution, something like
Free speech means I should be able to say whatever I want
Problem here being that every website on earth needs terms of service.
Unsurprisingly the new Twitter didn't do much since then to promote read freedom.
That's why I think it's a relevant question for any Twitter alternative.
I will give my definition
Freedom does not mean doing whatever you want, including harming people.
Freedom means becoming the the person you really are.
I terminated my Twitter account on April 27, 2023, when Elon Musk reinstated the account for a former, permanently banned Twitter user. Prior to that, I spent very little of my time on Twitter. I spend more time on LinkedIn, in second place, Facebook.
I'm not going to sign up for Instagram to get a Thread account.
true, deeply reflected on what i think but i do also believe many user just wanted to see the hype around the platform, would it really live up as a competition and what are the perks.
All of these are reflective of how competitive the current social media space has become.
I can't wait to see how long the hype continues and what would really be the differentiators.
It is obvious that threads will become the same totalitarian garbage dump as facebook or instagram. Believe me, I know what totalitarianism is, because I was born in Russia. Twitter is a little freer, a little more liberal about DIFFERENT opinions and DIFFERENT points of view. It pleases me, but Twitter is far from ideal.
Twitter just like the mesh now with people only care about followers and scam
Threads feels like a refresh for me. Hope its content won't go down like Twitter

For further actions, you may consider blocking this person and/or reporting abuse
We're a place where coders share, stay up-to-date and grow their careers.
I left Twitter in May after using the service for 15 years, it became too much of a tribal cesspool where you couldn't engage in civil conversation without some troll making his π© opinion known.
Threads is the hopeful successor to Twitter, and Twitter is unfortunately positioning itself to become the successor to Truth Social.

I am of the opinion as freedom should be free.

What does it mean for you to be free?
Do you feel more free when fascists have it easy to spread their propaganda?
When women are harassed?

I really do not want to dive into politics but just for the funtionality purpose, is instagram thread really a competiton for twitter.

I'm not so crazy about bland clones of twitter.
We'll see how this all plays out.
