ReactJs introduced a new way to build a user interface (UIs) with Reconciliation, Virtual DOM, JSX, Concurrent React, and Suspense features.
ReactJs is closer to JavaScript than to HTML, and that's what I think is the main reason which helped ReactJs win the frontend battle.
Open-sourced in 2013 React went from an internal project at Facebook to the most successful JS library.
