Contributor Experience: A Journey of Growth and a Few Bragging Rights

Hacktoberfest 2024? Oh yeah, it’s been a pretty cool ride! This year, I got to flex my coding skills, make some meaningful contributions, and rack up those precious PRs (three done, one still chilling in the approval queue). Each project? Well, it had its own little adventure and taught me something along the way.

Let’s start with my first contribution—Dev Profiles. I dove in and added some developer profiles. Simple, right? But hey, helping devs show off their skills to the world is like giving them a digital megaphone, and that’s pretty awesome. Next up was Psychedelic-Web, where I made the documentation clearer—because no one likes trying to understand code that reads like a cryptic puzzle. I took that documentation, gave it a clarity makeover, and voilà! Now future devs can find their way without pulling their hair out.

For my third project, I ventured into the Quotes zone—yes, a website dedicated to showcasing inspiring quotes. I contributed two of my favorites: one from Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad Poor Dad— “The rich don’t work for money; money works for them” (because who doesn’t want money working overtime?), and another from Steven Bartlett’s The Diary of a CEO—“Small stuff gives big results.” I felt like I was sprinkling wisdom into the world. The quotes now live on the internet, inspiring people, and I get to sit back like, “Yep, that was me.”

Now, the fourth project, Wild Guards, is still waiting for its moment of fame. I connected the navbar’s contact element to the form with an anchor tag, then linked up the donation button. A simple yet satisfying task, because who doesn’t love clicking a button that actually does what it’s supposed to?

A few years ago, Hacktoberfest felt like some mysterious coding event for the pros, and I wasn’t quite there yet. Fast forward to 2024, and not only did I finally participate, but I’m also contributing to the same community that helped me grow. Honestly, it feels like a full-circle moment. Now, I get to enjoy the satisfaction of giving back and, of course, the bragging rights that come with being a Hacktoberfest contributor. Fellow coders, you know what I’m talking about—that moment when you proudly drop, “Oh yeah, I contributed to Hacktoberfest,” and everyone nods in awe.

Hacktoberfest 2024 has been exciting, fulfilling, and just plain fun. And while I’m gearing up to take on even more challenging projects in the future, I’m already proud of the progress I’ve made this year. Here’s to the next round of PRs—and more bragging rights!
