Hope you all are having a great Thanksgiving weekend! 🍗 November is ending and I'm back with my 11th product of the year, part of my commitment to make 12 cool, open source products in 2019. 🗓
The Vision
Nomoogle is a product I thought of a long time ago when I was tired of seeing Google's manipulative tactics everywhere. 😤 When I switched to using alternative services like DuckDuckGo 🦆 and Zoho Mail, I realized that they were actually quite great and I didn't miss Google as much as I thought I would. But I realized that the initial period of switching can be hard for people, and we want to just keep going back to Google. 🏃🏻♂ We rely too much on it, and that's exactly why Google has come to control the web so dominantly. I don't think that's healthy, and so I want to urge everyone to reduce their overdependence on Google products. 🚫
The Fight For Privacy
I love the fact that companies like DDG and Apple are taking the fight to Google and speaking for the common folks' privacy. 🛡 It’s one of the biggest reasons why I love Apple products so much. I have been very vocal about this issue for a while now and wanted to make a small contribution myself, so I made Nomoogle. 🐻

What Is Nomoogle?
Nomoogle is a simple browser extension to help users avoid Google and break out of the habit of using Google as the default for everything, be it search or email. 📥 Here's what it can do:
- Nomoogle will show you a popup and ask you to reconsider every time you try to access a Google product.
- You can easily find alternatives to Google products with the help of Nomoogle with just one click.
- Nomoogle also lets you browse the web in two special modes: Redirect Mode and Strict Mode. In Redirect Mode, you are just redirected to an alternative whenever you try to access a Google website, e.g. DuckDuckGo for search when you try to open Google Search. In Strict Mode, you will simply be blocked from accessing Google websites. Enable this for a hardcore Google fast.
Nomoogle is completely open source, so you can check out the code and contribute to its development. You can find the repos here.

The Future Of Nomoogle
This is just the beginning for Nomoogle. I have some exciting new features planned for it, and I would like to invite you all to contribute. There are two things on the immediate roadmap:
- The ability to block custom websites and redirect to an alternative. So Nomoogle will be like your personal coach to help you get rid of habitually using any website.
- The ability to monitor your usage of blocked websites and see stats based on how well you’re doing. We can also add a leaderboard of sorts where a user can see how they they stack up against others.
If you like these ideas and want to contribute, come join me at Team Xenox and let’s get the party started.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. 👀👇🏼

Great product, I have my own google assistant alternative:
app and server. sorry for the shameless promotion but I thought you would like to know :)
No problem, We will check them out.
thanks (there is a lot of hiccups now but the next beta and server deployment will fix most of them)
I think you raise very needed discussion, hopefully it will get to more mainstream channels - developers are always on the edge of thinking about those technical drawbacks of big corp. having all the info about us.
It should
