Overview

Earlier this year we announced Vaunt, a developer relations platform that aims to empower and grow developer communities. We launched Vaunt with a number of features, including developer cards which are a collection of beautiful SVGs that can be easily shared across a myriad of destinations. We have seen developer cards popping up in the wild and have been thrilled to see communities getting value out of this feature. However, there are a few inherent hurdles that Developer Cards face. This includes cache limits, supported formats, and authentication.

To make it easier for Vaunt users to highlight their communities and experience we decided to create Community Boards, a one-stop shop for community statistics, repository insights, and achievements.

Community Boards

Vaunt Community Boards provide community statistics, repository insights, and a view into repository achievements. They can be used to track the growth and popularity of open-source projects, as well as to identify trends in the open-source community. They can also be used to showcase the contributions of individual developers and teams.

The data that powers our community boards is sourced from our Vaunt GitHub application. You can install Vaunt, free of charge, on your user or organization account to ensure the data on your community board is always up-to-date and accurate. However, you may see contribution data for your repository or account even if Vaunt is not installed. This is due to the tremendous power of open-source contributions, which allows us to showcase insights and basic details when users who have installed Vaunt contribute to other projects!

Board Types

Community boards are available at the User, Organization, and Repository levels. We have a variety of charts and metrics to be calculated on each board to help provide meaningful information easily. We see community boards driving repository discovery, project evaluation, and contributor incentivization and recognition.

We are really excited about the potential use cases for community boards and will be rapidly expanding the feature set for developers and organizations leveraging these boards. Community boards are available at the user, organization, and repository levels.

A variety of charts and metrics are calculated on each board to provide meaningful information easily. We foresee community boards driving repository discovery, project evaluation, and contributor incentive and recognition. We are very excited about the potential uses for community boards and will be rapidly expanding the feature set for developers and organizations that use them!

Below are high-level descriptions of the goals for each board.

• User Boards: These boards are a great way to recognize and celebrate the contributions that you have made. They focus on individual contributions to repositories and achievements earned. This means that you can see all of the work that you have done on a particular repository, as well as any awards or recognition that you have received. This can be a great way to track your progress and see how you are making a difference. It can also be a great way to motivate yourself to keep contributing and to reach new goals.

• Organization Boards: These boards focus on contributions across all owned repositories at an organizational level. This is a great way to see how your organization is growing and to identify areas for improvement. For example, you can see how many repositories your organization has and how many unique contributors are working on them.

• Repository Boards: These boards focus on contributions and achievements at the repository level. This is a great way to track the progress of a particular project and to identify the contributors who are making the most impact. For example, you can see how many commits have been made to a repository, how many issues have been closed, and how many stars the repository has.

Currently, GitHub is the only supported provider, but we will be adding additional providers over time. We will also be rolling out new developer cards that make it easy to embed our insights wherever you want to share! Stay tuned for more updates coming soon!

Summary

In short, Community boards provide a window into your project's developer community and highlight the great work your contributors are driving.
