How to get the Top Software Engineering Practices Voice Badge on LinkedIn

Image description
So I recently got the Top Software Engineering Practices Voice Badge on LinkedIn and I will share here some tips on how to get the badge:

  • Have at least a four digit number of followers. Now this is not something that is mentioned in LinkedIn but I think you need to have a certain number of followers in order to reach a pretty decent number of audience.
  • So to get followers, send connection requests to people you know from school, college, work, etc.
  • Post content on LinkedIn at least semi-regularly. I was and still am too shy to post on LinkedIn sometimes because a lot of people that I know follow me on there and so I fear judgement. But I think it is easier to post about any major achievements, work events, etc.
  • Contribute to the collaborative articles, you need to contribute to at least 3 articles to be eligible. The more articles you contribute to, the better. But the quality of the articles should be great too. There should be no grammatical errors, there should be no typos. The language used should be simple and the answer should not be too short.

What are your tips on how to get a Top Software Engineering Practices Voice badge or any other Top Voice badge on LinkedIn? Let us discuss in the comments!

Hi @nandinishinduja! :) Thanks for writing this post! :) I've be wanting to find ways to contribute to Linkedin articles, and you've just given me some ideas! :) I think as far as posting regularly, I highly recommend picking two articles on a SWE-related topic that intrigues you and just comment on them.

This is what Linked In offered me as a "how to get a badge" hint.
"Contribute to 3 or more articles in this skill to be eligible to earn a Top Software Project Management Voice badge. Check back tomorrow for your updated progress."

Bigger question, does the badge do anything? Also follow me on LinkedIn 😊 if you don’t ask you don’t get 😊

No, thanks, I don't want to follow someone who undermines other people's achievements.

I’m neurodivergent, I have this amazing ability to upset people. I swear I’m a mod here on dev and my light hearted ask for a follow was just a joke

To Adam Crockett - you find your disability an amazing thing and you mock people who actually achieve something. Weird!

I asked what the badge does? you have all (likely the same person) taken my comment completely the wrong way, because I want to know what it does, nothing more… does it boost your rankings? Help you with interviews? Genuinely interested!

I did no mocking but as I said, my disability affects my ability to communicate, I am sorry if you have seen some offence but I assure you there is non intended

Hey folks, I wanna hop in to say that I do really think Adam means well here and this is just a misunderstanding!

Look at Adam's interactions across DEV and you'll see their many kind comments — it would be way out of character for them to put someone down. Also, they explained themselves here and to me it sounds really reasonable. It genuinely doesn't seem Adam is trying to cause friction.

While I can understand being defensive, I think it's important to listen to folks when they explain themselves. Online, we're missing body language and other context clues that can provide a lot of clarity to discussion... it's easy for someone's point to be missed or words to be taken the wrong way.

I say let's give Adam some grace and try to assume the best here!
