December 24th, 2020: What did you learn this week?

It's that time of the week again and for the last time for 2020, a.k.a. a dumpster fire of a year.

So wonderful devs, what did you learn this week? It could be programming tips, career advice etc.

Feel free to comment with what you learnt and/or reference your TIL post to give it some more exposure.

#todayilearned

Summarize a concept that is new to you.

And remember, if something you learnt was a big win for you, then you know where to drop it as well.👇👇🏻👇🏼👇🏽👇🏾👇🏿

At the start of 2020, I promised myself to write 1 article each week. Here we are towards the end of the year. I haven’t broken that promise.

I did something which I wanted to do, I wrote one article a week consistently, throughout 2020. Just finished the draft, will publish tomorrow all that I learned.

I am immensely proud of my decision.

EDIT: Here it is:

I worked for 2 days in a supermarket superstore to support our colleagues in our organisation during the pre-Christmas frenzy.
This brought back my memories when I used to work as a chef, and how hard some people have it out there and I feel so lucky to work remotely from my bedroom.
On the other hand, I saw various devices being used by customers, such as food scanners, that smooth out the process of people coming, buying and getting out of the store faster, even across older users. This tells me that tech makes it easier for people doing their shopping, especially during the pandemic.
So what I learned is to be humble and keep coding, hoping to keep creating solutions that make boring stuff more automated.

I learned all about Docker and ran my first container. It's not as scary as I thought it would be!
