Update May 30th
There is now a twitter-account and an RSS-Feed for DevLids.
I'll use the Twitter-account for announcing news and updates.
The RSS-Feed contains the latest 10 Entries with the Name of the submitter, link to the detail-page, and a smallish image of the lid.
Update May 28th
Submissions got slower of course, which is completely fine, because it gives me some time to extend the site. There's now detail-pages! When you click on the magnifying-glass under the lid, you'll get to a dedicated page for this poster. Also, some devs have submitted multiple lids. Those are also visible on this page. It's still really basic, but it's a start, this for example is Wes Bos' page.
The next features I plan to add are RSS-Feeds and a carousel/slider or really any more usable way to explore the lids. Also, I'm still working on the logo.
Thanks again to the awesome people submitting photos and allowing me to show their workhorse!
Update May 21st
65 Lids!
Until today, I got at least one new submission every day since launch, and a couple of lids I got by searching and asking on twitter.
One of those I asked was Ken Wheeler (popular JS-dev (Slick-Carousel) and most North-American person ever), and I got not one but three lids from him! So now I need to implement multiple lids per poster. I think this would also be nice for keeping a change-history of a lid.
Just now I also added lazy-loading for the images, to keep the initial page-load below 500kb.
Kirby CMS has proven to be a great CMS with a nice responsive admin-panel, which allows me to effortlessly update the page via phone (if the image doesn't need too much editing).
Really happy about how this turned out. I love the street-arty vibe seeing all the lids next to each other, and I hope to get many more! Once I get to 100 I will make a logo and some stickers to hand out at conferences and meet-ups (har har).
Update May 16th
54! And we have the great Wes Bos on there \o/ (who can spot him?)
Right now I'm thinking about some new functionality.
One simpler thing would be a heart to click on, like a "Like"-Button. But that would introduce some order/ranking/rating, which I don't really like.
Another, bigger, thing would be to enhance the "Zoom"-Button not only to show a bigger Version of the lid, but to also to allow a comment by the lid-owner. Maybe every lid could have their own detail-page. Also, I'm thinking about enabling multiple lids per user.
Right now I'm still hoping for more submissions, and also I'll be asking people on confs and meetups to take photos of their lids.
I'm really enjoying the view of all the lids next to each other. It's got that street-art-vibe!
Update May 14th
The first version of https://devlids.com/ just went live with 46 awesome lids!
A big thank-you to all contributors! This was great fun to start and I can't wait to see this grow. Check it out, and keep the lids coming!
Update May 13th
Wow, we're at 23 Lids! That's 20 more than I anticipated for the first day :) I quickly realized that updating the page by hand won't be really handy, so I spent some time setting up Kirby CMS so I can add new ones quickly. I still need to clarify some legal requirements for Germany (GDPR and such) before going live, but this is already great fun! Have a peek:
Original Post
The other day I had the idea to start a collection of developers' and designers' laptop-lids. I think it would be nice to see lots of them in one place, together with their owners' tw/gh/etc. usernames.
Here's a first concept:
I downloaded all the lids in the video from the web to get started.
Now I would like to get some real lids from you, to get a basic version going.
The plan is to get a nice and big collection by getting lids from fellow devs or taking them myself on conferences, meet-ups, at work.
When I get a couple of submissions, the whole thing will be online on https://devlids.com
This is purely non-commercial and done for fun.
All I need from you is a photo of your lid, as straight and big as possible, and the name you want displayed alongside with it, plus your twitter/github/dev.to-profiles if you wish. Feel free to add it in the comments, or hit me up on twitter (@niorad ), or send an email to submit@devlids.com
(This is still really early, so please don't be disappointed if it doesn't take off :-)

This is really cool.
Would you be interested in collaborating with us in some way "officially"? I'm not sure exactly what that would mean, but I'm pretty sure we could give it a good boost.
Wow, very cool to read that from you!
Since I have only one contributed lid as of now, I'd like to wait until I have a couple more before I can better shape this in whichever way.
But once it feels a bit more complete, yes sure!
Would it be ok to use the dev.to Logo-SVG from the header as a link-icon for the ones with devto-profiles?
Cool, feel free to email me at any point.
And yeah, go for it with the SVG.
devlids.com/ is live now \o/
So yeah we managed to get 46 lids :D which is more than I expected. Most of them came thanks to dev.to, so thank you for enabling that with this great platform.
