People often ask if they can rely on open source software. Who tests it? Who does the quality assurance.
In open source projects it is the job of the developers to ensure that quality of their code. Some invest a lot of energy in it and write lots of automated tests.
If you look at test coverage - a reasonable even though not perfect way to measure it - you will see that in corporations it is 20-30%. In many open source projects it is 80-90% test coverage.
So I say there is a lot corporations could learn from open source projects in terms of test automation.
You as an individual could learn a lot from participating in open source development, but it is not always clear how and where to start it.
That's why I started to build a community where I and others will help you get started with contribution to an open source project.
