As you are updating your LinkedIn profile for the latest mission in the CNC2018 challenge, you might want to add an image to your LinkedIn header. The LinkedIn header is a great way to support the impression you are trying to create for recruiters and hiring managers. You can use any image you like for your LinkedIn header, but tools like Canva and Visme make it easy for job seekers to create their very own LinkedIn headers.
If you are looking for a bonus objective for the CNC2018 challenge, today's post is going to show you how to create a LinkedIn header using Visme. I will walk you through the process I took to make two different LinkedIn headers. One header will be made with one of the Visme templates while the other will be made with a blank template.
Header One: Using A Visme Template
I'm going to start building the first header with the Visme template. Visme offers a large selection of templates for LinkedIn headers. The number of templates you can choose from depends on your type of Visme account.
I am using a premium Visme account so I have complete access to all the header templates in the Visme library. First, I'm going to click the Create button in the Visme dashboard to create a new project. Once I'm in the project menu, I click social graphics in the project navigation.
A sub-navigation menu will appear underneath with different social media icons. I click the LinkedIn icon in this sub-menu to access the LinkedIn header templates. After looking at the templates, I decided to use the template in the 8th row of the Visme library.
This is the second template in this row. It features a forest background with a Frank Sinatra quote. I double-click this template and Visme will open this template in the workspace.
Next, I change the name of this project at the top of the workspace. Now that the template is in the workspace, it is time to start transforming this template into a LinkedIn header. First, I change the background of the template.
I double-click the background of the template to access the background sub-menu. Next, I click Background in the sub-menu. A window with three blue buttons will appear with the following options I can pick for a background image.
- Select an image. This button allows me to upload an image.
- Pick from my library. This button allows you to pick images already in your Visme library. These are images you've already uploaded to Visme.
- Find an image. This button allows you to find images already loaded on Visme.
I am going to find an image in the Visme library for my header background. I click Find an image. This immediately opens the photos tab.
I'm going to use the search bar at the top to find an image of a computer. Once I find an image I like, I just double-click the image to replace my background image. Now I can click my background image to move the image around the canvas to get the right placement.
Once I'm satisfied with my background image, it is time to update the text and elements on the header. First, I deleted the pink question marks that were surrounding the text. I can delete these graphics by clicking on them and clicking delete to remove them from the canvas.
Next, I'm going to change the quote to my name. I double-click the quote to access the text sub-menu and a blinking cursor. Now I have changed my text.
In addition to changing the text, I will fix the font, color, and font size. I will also change the text-align from right to center. The last thing I need to change is the placement of the text.
I click my text to get the movement icon. Then I can move the text around the canvas to find the position I want. The second item I need to change is the Frank Sinatra text.
I changed the Frank Sinatra text using the same steps I used to change the quote to my name. Once I finish updating my text, I move the job title text underneath my name text. I am going to leave a little bit of space between the two text blocks so it will be easier for people to see when they visit my LinkedIn profile.
Before I download my LinkedIn header, I am going to do one last check over my design and make any final changes. I can use the preview button to see a sample of what my header will look like. You can find the preview button next to the share button at the top of the Visme workspace.
The last thing I need to do is download my header. To download my header, I click the download button next to the share button. Inside the download window, I make sure the image is clicked on the left.
On the right side, I click jpg for my image format then press download. After my image is downloaded to my computer, I can upload my new header to my LinkedIn profile. The image below is an image of the finished header.
Once my header is uploaded to LinkedIn, I can double-check how everything looks. If I'm not happy with my header, I can go back to Visme and make changes. I download my header again and upload the latest version to LinkedIn. The image below is the header on my LinkedIn profile.
As you work on your LinkedIn header, you might repeat the last step often to make sure your LinkedIn header looks exactly the way you want it. As you update your LinkedIn header, you will want to make sure your activity feed is turned off so your connections don't get notified of every change you make to your profile. Header Two: Using a Blank Template
It is time to make header number two. This time I won't be using a template to help me make a header. Header number two will use a blank template to create a simple header that matches my branding a bit more.
First, I go back to the Visme dashboard and click the create button. When I am inside the project menu, I click social graphics. Inside the social graphics sub-menu, I click the LinkedIn icon.
This time I will pick the blank template in the first row of the Visme library. I double-click the template to open it inside my Visme workspace. Now that the template is in the workspace, I'm going to change the name of my project before I start adding text and color to the canvas.
After I name my project, I click on the background to access the background sub-menu. Since we used a background image in header one, header two will be a background color. To change the color, I click the white square next to Background.
The color window will open. I want to use hex codes for the colors I use on my branding. To pick the colors I want to use, I click the square with the plus sign in the Colors tab.
This will be in the first row of the colors. Another window will open. This includes the color wheel and an input block for hex codes at the bottom.
I paste the hex codes I want in the input box and the color palette will change to show my new color. I clicked the OK button and now my background color has been changed to the color I want. Now it is time to add some text. I click the Basics tab on the left sidebar menu in my workspace.
This will open the tab with a variety of options to choose from. I click Header & Text to access a variety of text choices. I'm going to add a headline to my header for my name.
I can add the header to my canvas by clicking on Add Title to create a headline inside my canvas. Once the headline is on my canvas, I can change the text, update the headline styles, and move the headline anywhere around my canvas. I just need to double-click my text to access the text sub-menu and get the blinking cursor.
For this headline, I change the text from Add a Title to my name. I also replace the font and font size. I also am going to set the text-align of this headline to center.
The last thing I'm going to do is use the markers to stretch out the text box across the canvas and then move my headline in the center of the canvas. Finally, I'm going to add to header two is a job title underneath my name. Instead of dragging a new headline into the canvas, I'm going to copy the headline I just made and make changes to the copy for my job title.
To copy a headline, I double-click on my name headline to access the text sub-menu. I click on actions on the right side of the menu to access a list of different actions I can do. I click Duplicate and Visme will create a copy of my name headline.
I can take this copy and turn it into my job title. I just double-click the copy I just made to get the blinking cursor and text sub-menu. Now I can update the font size and font.
The last thing I need to do is just move my job title headline underneath my name headline. After I double-check my header and make any last-minute changes I want, it is time to download my header. I click the download button to access the download window.
I check to see if the image is clicked then pick jpg for the image format. I click download and header two will be downloaded as an image on my computer. Here's an image of my finished header two below.
It is time to upload header two to my LinkedIn profile. I just go to my LinkedIn profile and add my header to my profile. This way I can double-check to see how everything looks and if I need to go back into Visme to make any changes. Here's an image below of header two on my LinkedIn profile.
