There are several accountabilities hacks out there and you might have tried some of them out in the past. The tips shared in this article will help you stay more accountable when others fail.
The Stake Model
As you will expect, if you get anything out of life, you need to stake something. For any successful learning adventure, you had to stake your time and probably let go of some fun or even miss events.
In the Stake Model, you simply find something valuable to you - either a certain amount of money or something of sentimental value to you that you don't want to let go of and give it to a trusted person with the following well clarified and understood:
- The Learning objective: What exactly do you want to learn
- Duration: How long will it take you to learn this
- Success Criteria: What determines if you have successfully completed the learning adventure. You need to pay attention to this. If what you are learning is a technical skill like Power BI, for example, your acceptance criteria should include working on a Power BI Report and documenting this properly on GitHub or Medium. In fact, make sure you submit samples of how detailed your documentation should be. The key takeaway here is that you truly want to grow by pushing yourself to do what you haven't done before
- Your Return on Lean: If you have any agreement with your accountability partner, you should clarify what the return will be for you. It is not a must that your accountability partner should give you something back.

- If your parent is your accountability partner, this is a great way to show them your commitment to growth and they can go the extra lengths to get you the support needed for your growth.
- If your mentor is your accountability partner, this is an excellent way to convince them of your commitment to growth and they can be encouraged to support you even when not convenient for them.
- It is a way to get what you need for your next learning journey. as you share your growth with the community, it is easier for people to estimate the value of their investment in you. If you can do this with just a phone, with a PC, you can even do more. simple.
- Sharing your journey can also connect you to the right mentor. there is no way to convince your potential mentor of your commitment if you don’t have evidence like this. You need to practice accountability in your learning and growth journey.
