Music Monday β€” What are you listening to? (Country Edition) 🀠

cover image source: Giphy

This week, we're putting the spotlight on country music. 🀠 And y'all, I must admit, I'm not really a fan of this one. In fact, I've purposefully scheduled this edition to come out while I'm away on vacation, skiing in Colorado. πŸ˜† That said, I will most definitely look through your suggestions when I return. In any case, I'm always open to having my mind changed, so dig deep for your favorite country tunes β€” whether you're into the classic, twangy country tunes of yesteryear or you like the big production style of today's country that kinda blends in modern pop elements. I'm also curious about the more niche, lesser-known country artists out there, so if anybody is a country connoisseur with knowledge of these kinda folks, please let me in on it. But, if like me, you're simply not really into Country music and you wanna share something else with us, don't hesitate to do so. The edition is merely a suggestion and you are free to color outside the lines.

Dolly Parton faces the camera and gestures a heart symbol by using both hands to draw a heart in the air.

How we do

In this weekly series, folks can chime in and drop links to whatever it is they've been listening to recently + browse others' suggestions. You can follow the suggested genre if you'd like, but don't feel confined to it; you're free to suggest whatever you wanna. πŸ™Œ

If you're interested in having other discussions about music, consider following the aptly named #music discussions organization.

Giddyup folks! Let's listen to some country music. Note: you can embed a link to your song using the following syntax {% embed https://... %}. This should work for most common platforms!

Looking forward to listening to y'all's suggestions! 🎢

I'm from the UK but my Dad is a huge Waylon Jennings fan, when i was kid he'd play Waylon, Cash and the White Mansions every opportunity he had on his 250w hi-fi system and rattle the windows with "Union Mare and Confederate Grey"! Man I hated that album growing up!

Fast forward and I'm 46 years old, I'm browsing in a second hand CD store and I come across a copy of The White Mansions album, take it home and blast that old song and start crying. My Dad is still alive, he's 83 now but something about that song and an innocent time when i had no worries, no bills, no projects, no kids, no pressures.

White Mansions is such a great album all about how the south felt after they were defeated during the war. Songs all about asking themselves how they were supposed to get on with their lives now the world was going to change, they were forced to change their ways whether they liked it or not.

probably not typical/best to work, but I like to listen (Spanish) punk music at work. I think it transmits energy, sometimes better than coffee !!!

Oooo nice! I'd like to hear that. I previously had a punk edition here if you wanna check it out. No pressure, but if you suggest a song, I'll definitely listen to it.

So, I'm gonna shout out John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads" cause just the other day I was chatting with my cousin about this song and he pointed out that it's atually mentioning a bunch of places in western Virginia, not really West Virginia.

Looking this up online, I'm getting mixed results, but found this source here pretty interesting. Reading that, it sounds like the song actually was crafted with Maryland in mind to begin with before it morphed. Will we ever know the truth? 🀷

This is chill, Keith!

I'm liking the big open guitar chords ringing out during the verses.

Oh awesome! Thanks for showing me this. Good tune.

I'm really liking the instrument side of things here β€” loving that subtle use of organ in it! I play music with a dude who regularly plays organ on his keys, so it kinda sticks out to me as a cool organ part.
