I know we've done live music before, but I figured we could fulfill @citizen428's request here and put the spotlight on live DJs. So, let's hear it, who are your favorite live DJs?! By the way, if you have a genre/theme request, let me know in the comments... always down for feedback on what we might cover next.
How we do
In this weekly series, folks can chime in and drop links to whatever it is they've been listening to recently + browse others suggestions.
If you like talking about music, consider following the org #music discussions for more conversations about music!
Alright, let's hear some live DJs! Note: you can embed a link to your song using the following syntax {% embed https://... %}
. This should work for most common platforms!

While I like DJ sets, I can't say I have loads of experience in the genre. Hoping y'all can help turn me onto some good stuff in this thread.
One set that I stumbled upon recently in my YouTube feed was called "Percussive Dub, Spiritual Jazz & Psychedelic Grooves with Millie McKee" and I've found myself coming back to it a couple times...
One channel that I love to tune into for DJ sets is called Boiler Room... I'm gonna drop y'all a bunch of different sets from this below.
As far as DJs go, I quite like Nicolas Jaar's sound; I especially love his band Darkside who I think are DJ enough for a mention here. Can't say I've listened to much of him live, but here's something for y'all:
As a LCD Soundsystem freak, I'm well familiar with James Murphy's dj set here on Boiler Room. To me it's cool because ya can clearly see the influences in the types of music he plays:
I know little about KILIMANJARO, but this recent Boiler Room set I watched definitely made me wanna be there, haha!
Similarly, I tuned into this set by Sama' Abdulhadi recently and the vibe is just so strong:
Lastly, while I have no clue how they are live, I also really dig DJ Koze – especially loved the album Amygdala. So many great songs off that album... try out the instrumental Royal Asscher Cut:
I don't know much about DJ artists and musics, but what I have in mind is Nujabes. His music caught my attention because he fuses some chill piano and sax tunes with hip-hop and other DJ-thing. He passed away in 2010 at such a young age of 36.
Here is the highlight of his music by other DJ named SHOTA, it just fun to watch this to remember his.
here is for full version:
and this is my favorite Nujabes song:
OOooo this is awesome.
I'm def gonna have to dig into Nujabes music... read a bit about him on Wikipedia and he sounds like a pretty important person in the beat-making scene.
These vids you shared of DJ SHOTA paying tribute to Nujabes are seriously dope! Really appreciate ya dropping these recommendations. 🔥
I have to go back here, because DJ SHOTA - Mellow Works 3 & 2 also awesome. I'm digging these everyday now.
Oh hell yeah!! I'm really liking this vibe. Really appreciate ya chiming back in here with this, Dendi. 🙌
I need to get back on the grind with Music Monday!
some say Nujabes is the godfather of Chill-Hop music, the music genre that we often hear on Lofi-girl channel.
Niiice! That is one of my go-to stations, so I def need to tune into the originator.
I've been getting back into the Soulquarians (collective of awesome soul musicians in the late 90's) recently and can def hear their influence on chill hop. You're probs already familiar with'em, but this video sums it all up quite nicely:
I hear J Dilla a lot in some lofi playlist, great similarity to Nujabes. The Roots does ring a bell and I remember them is from Jimmy Fallon SNL band. Really like the sound of The Seed 2.0 by The Roots, fusing funk rock with hiphop rap.
I gotta give Suat another shout here. I mean just look at this dude running a marathon while DJ'ing! 🤯
