Earworms! We all get'em sometimes. You know what I'm talking about right? It's when a song gets stuck on repeat in your brain. Sometimes it's a good thing... you've got a new song you're into and just can't stop thinking about. Other times, it's just plain old annoying. Maybe you hear just a snippet of the tune and it instantly takes over your brain, looping around and around uncontrollably through your mind. Whether it's a good or bad thing, I wanna hear those catchy tunes that just don't ever seem to leave the brain. Share your earworms with me! ππ
How we do
In this weekly series, folks can chime in and drop links to whatever it is they've been listening to recently + browse others suggestions. You can follow the suggested genre if you'd like, but don't feel confined to it; you're free to suggest whatever you wanna. π
If you're interested in having other discussions about music, consider following the aptly named #music discussions organization.
"Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down"... never gonna get you out of my head! Note: you can embed a link to your song using the following syntax {% embed https://... %}
. This should work for most common platforms!
Looking forward to listening to y'all's suggestions! πΆ

Lots of synthwave and stuff without lyrics really help me get into flow. So, to name a few:
If you like cheese, the Hackers movie soundtrack is great:
Now, for earworms in the genre, one that constantly gets my foot tapping:
FM Love - Anders Enger Jensen (of 8-bit guy fame)
Happy hacking!
Thanks for chiming in, Jimmy! So much good stuff in here. I love synthwave. π
I also get "Halcyon and On and On" stuck in my head often.
Fun fact: the movie Mortal Kombat, the 90's version (aka the best version π) ends with that song playing. I just learned that this year when I rewatched the movie... apparently 10 year-old-me didn't catch that, haha.
Esoteric! Never heard these before and so I'll give it a try
I only recently discovered Journey, but now I can't stop singing "One day, love will find you! Break those chains that bind youuuuu!"
Haha, all you had to do was quote the song and it's playing through my head now.
I made this playlist on Spotify of all the songs I know about that Paul McCartney and/or John Lennon wrote for other artists: open.spotify.com/playlist/4EtJK3zN...
It's full of earworms. Right now "From a Window" keeps going round and round in my head, maybe because that one was relatively new to me.
If you know of any songs I should add, please pass them along. Thanks!
Ooooo, I'll check out the playlist Monty... sounds like a good one! I'm not familiar with "From a Window", so will keep my ears open for it.
The McCartney/Lennon combo is hard to beat when it comes to earworms... but also, I think Harrsion's "Here Comes the Sun" might just be the earwormiest Beetle's song out there.
If I think of any other McCartney or Lennon tunes for you to add, I'll let you know.
Yep, George had to compete with John and Paul for space on any album, and he didn't start writing songs until the other two were already cranking out hits, so he had to bring his A-game to get his songs recorded. "Something" is another good example of a Harrison earworm. Enjoy the playlist!
Oh totally, I've read a good deal about George's struggles to get his tunes included! And when he became a solo artist, he quickly released a double album, I'm thinking either because he had some rejected songs banked and ready to go or was just so ready to let loose as a songwriter that the songs flowed from him... maybe both!
"Something" is one of my favorite Beatles songs. There are some wonderful cover versions of it too... apparently, George wrote it while thinking about Ray Charles (not Pattie Boyd, haha!) and he gave it to Joe Cocker (who actually put it out on an album before the Beatles did... I still count it as a cover, haha). Ray Charles ended up playing it too and did an amazing job with it!
This weekend I was listening to a song that couldn't get out of my head. It's a type of Brazilian country music. It's great to listen to with a barbecue and a few beers π π

Nice!! I can see how this one would get stuck in your head, Renan. Also, feeling the bbq and beers vibes. π»

The most recent earworm for me comes courtesy of the hard rock duo Death from Above 1979. Give the song "Caught Up" a whirl and see if it gets stuck in your head too!
Also, gotta love this badass music video for it!
My earworm these days is this song. Kept running into it on TikTok and now lives rent free in my head
Definitely a catchy one here!

Oooh, I dig this! Adding it to the rotation.
Instagram reels have ruined my brain and this song is forever looping in my head: youtube.com/watch?v=S2TaAcwC_zI
Oooo that drum'n'bass beat is definitely memorable... I can see how that one would loop around in your mind, haha.
