Happy New Year! Last week, it was Christmas and today it's 2024. π While I don't believe there is yet a true New Year genre (correct me if I'm wrong) I thought for this edition we could share one of the following a) our favorite tunes from partying last night/early this morning, b) songs that you'd put on for a New Year's day celebration, or c) your go-to music for recovering from a rough night out. π΅βπ« All are fair game! Just remember to choose wisely below when playing songs β one person's party music might be another person's hangover kryptonite. You're responsible for your own decisions! And as always, play whatever you wanna β the edition is just there for inspiration, there are no firm rules.
How we do
In this weekly series, folks can chime in and drop links to whatever it is they've been listening to recently + browse others' suggestions. You can follow the suggested genre if you'd like, but don't feel confined to it; you're free to suggest whatever you wanna. π
If you're interested in having other discussions about music, consider following the aptly named #music discussions organization.
Let's reel in the new year with some good tunes!π Note: you can embed a link to your song using the following syntax {% embed https://... %}
. This should work for most common platforms!
Looking forward to listening to y'all's suggestions! πΆ

New Year's morning I actually discovered a new artist that goes by the name DES ROCS.
He's a young rocker that I believe plays all the instruments on his album. Here's a video of his tune "Dream Machine"...
He's got a pretty awesome voice that at times reminds me of Freddy Mercury.
This one is also cool π
Oooo great track! I hadn't heard this one before but it's cool. Rock on! πΈ
Cool style, for moving and dancing, but also chill a MAX after parties! πΊ
And another cool music for Petit Biscuit, one of my favorite musicians :
@thomasbnt you should try these two as well:
The first is okay! The second is great! Thanks! πΊπΌ
I agree! I'm really digging that second one. π₯
Ooooo I'm really liking the Petit Biscuit song... also, great name lol!
Cool list of acoustic tunes as well!
I'm watching 2 mini concerts Prince - Live 2007, Super Bowl XLI Halftime Show, NFL and Marvin Gaye Sings the United States National Anthem at the 1983 NBA Allstar Game
Ooooo wow, these are some excellent selections, Stefan. π
I've seen the Prince one! Purple Rain in the freaking rain... it doesn't get much better than that. That damn guitar solo blows me away. And actually, I saw Prince live before he passed β it was pretty dang close to this point in time, I saw him in probably 2010-2011ish because I remember it was my senior year of college. He's phenomenal!
And so is Marvin Gaye!! I've not seen this performance of his so am popping this one on right now. Wow, what a cool version of the national anthem β loving the drum machine haha!
Here's a cool Marvin Gaye (and James Jamerson) story for ya that I recently saw on Digging the Greats:

I'll dig into this tonight. Here's one for Kendrick Lamar Damn
Oooo a deep dive! Hell yeah. Thx for this... I don't know enough about Damn, so this'll be good!
Focus Flow! π§ Let's start working on the new year resolutions! π€
Ooh I approve πΊ
Got my stamp of approval on this one too. Love me some lofi!
By the way, this ain't finished, but I've been working on my own chill lofi jam here. It's a wav file, so may or may not work for ya!
Also, just know that this was kinda just me jamming on guitar on top of a little bit I concocted. At some point, I stop playing guitar and adjust something (can't remember what) so if it sounds like I faded out weirdly, that's kinda because I did, haha. π
Good stuff, Bala! πΈ
Actually, I was thinking about ya the other day cause I heard a tune that reminded me of "Helvetica"... check out this tune and lemme know what ya think.
will add this .. I am away on personal time off. Would need the new recommendation when i do code reviews :-).. thanks for sharing... .. for some reason this track reminds me of Stranger things .. ....
Oooo hope you enjoy your time off! And I can def hear a Stranger Things connection to this. Those old school synths!
Welcome @michaeltharrington let me share some really cool songs coming in from South America (all are by Tainy).
Till then, see you next week. . . . onto making another awesome playlist.
Ooo alright, I'll give these a whirl! Hahaha, great image of Ahhhnold running!
Well I think today's very much a Groove Salad Classic day for me on SomaFM.

Sweet!! I really like this, Ben.
I honestly can't easily tell which songs I'm listening to with this player, but it doesn't bother me that much. I bookmarked this page and maybe I'll look up the album later to dig into the individual tracks. It's some good stuff.
Whatever I'm listening to right now kinda reminds me of Thievery Corporation's Outernational Sound and that's very much a good thing! π
The last album of an Australian band called "Boy & Bear".
Nice!! This rocks, Arika. I hadn't heard of Boy & Bear before but I like their sound a lot. Seems like they have a good variety of tunes on this album too.
I listened to a lot of the previews and "Apex" is so groovy... that one instantly caught my ear. But really all of these sound like good tunes. They got some really cool vocals β backup vocals too!
Yes, I also like them a lot. I listen to them since they first started but this must be my favorite album until now. I think I like "Magnus" the most, but "Apex" is in the top 5 :D.
My son is playing Cyberpunk this morningβ¦reminded me of thisβ¦
Wow! I didn't realize Cyberpunk had such a damn good soundtrack, haha... good eclectic mix!
Thatβs not even the soundtrack (though, thatβs good too)β¦thatβs literally what they did for the mission titles. I didnβt even realize until I played one that was called Boat Drinks (like the Jimmy Buffett song), and really looked at the list. Not gonna lie, my mind was blown a little bitβ¦
Haha! That's freaking awesome. That's a cool creative constraint they gave themselves. Good catching it!
I'm here for recommendations, my playlist is also bored of Taylor at this pointπ
